After my chilled hand stretched to open the nearly frozen glass door, I was immediately met with a warm hello and the feeling of spring. As I ushered myself further into the store, the lime green walls continued to warm me while the smell of spring days rushed to greet my nose. Though it was inarguably a winter wonderland outside, inside, JuJu was a completely different season.
This fresh taste of spring can only be found at JuJu Gifts, Accessories and Décor, located on the 200 block of E. Erie in the Third Ward. JuJu isn't just your typical Hallmark store - it sets itself apart from any other gift store in Milwaukee by offering a variety of different items from jewelry and handbags to lampshades and furniture. All of the items range anywhere from $5 to $1,000, which allows for a diverse flow of people in and out of this cute boutique.
With such a large assortment of pieces featured within the store, it's hard to choose a favorite.
"It's very fun to pick out jewelry because there's so much diversity in the design. But, it's also a big challenge for me to go to New York and gauge how successful the items will be in Milwaukee," commented owner Wendy Pawlyshyn on shopping for JuJu.
The word juju is a French Creole word that means "object with magical powers." When questioned on why JuJu was the winning name for the boutique, Pawlyshyn smiled and said, "I took [the word] to mean the inspiration you feel when you see an object you really want and have to have." This was what she confidently insisted that each customer feels when looking at the multitude of different items that fill her boutique.
What further sets JuJu apart from its competition is the hundreds of different vendors that supply JuJu with the most fashionable and unique trends. Each item is hand picked to ensure the continued quality and fashionable variety that JuJu prides itself on possessing.
So whether you're looking for the perfect floral lampshade to accent your beer pong table, or you know the ideal person to receive the "Dysfunctional Family Paper Doll" book, Juju has you covered for every occasion.
