Kanye West is an idiot with a point

At the MTV Europe Music Awards held on Nov 2, Kanye West did not win the award for best video. This may sound like a perfectly ordinary statement describing what happened at the awards, it may not cause any emotional shock to your system, but you are not Kanye West.
After losing the award, Kanye hijacked the microphone and had this to say, "Fuck dis! (My video) cost a million dollars, Pamela Anderson was in it, I was jumping across canyons and shit! If I don't win, the awards show loses credibility. Nothing against you (Justice & Simian), but hell man. It took a month to film; I stood on a mountain; I flew a helicopter over Vegas. I did it to be the king of all videos and I wanted to walk home with that award."
My first reaction to this was laughter, then a bit of confusion. Does Kanye really think that the awards show loses credibility because his expensive video lost? Is he thick-minded enough to believe that his inability to "buy" an award diminishes the show's integrity? What a little bitch!
After thinking about Kanye's outburst a little more, I started to understand where he might have been coming from. How often do awards shows, especially in the music industry, actually recognize artists based on the innovation, creativity and overall quality of their work? Artists like Regina Spektor and Ani DiFranco are not getting multiple nominations and wins, but the Grammys give Kelly Clarkson and Mariah Carey multiple awards.
Maybe Kanye has a point. What happened at the MTV Europe Music Awards seems to be an anomaly-actually giving an award to an artist or group based on quality, not popularity. Kanye's wording may have made him sound like a little bitch, and I do not think that the show "loses credibility" by not handing him the award, but I can see why Kanye would be upset. He is accustomed to awards shows honoring the hottest stars with the biggest sales and the flashiest videos and wardrobes-so why the hell did he lose?
