Monster Reborn

Monster Hunter for PSP was not considered a huge success by most game players. In fact, it got fairly low reviews from more than a few video game magazines. In an effort to breathe life into the franchise, Capcom spawned one hell of a game: Monster Hunter: Freedom.

Freedom puts you into the shoes of a custom-made sword-for-hire type of monster hunter. It uses a quest-based system for you to earn pay and, more importantly, items. Through facing monsters and going through various lands, you can earn parts such as monster bones, metal ore and plants to upgrade your equipment.

The game presents a challenge, as well; if you start out and immediately hunt wyverns, you will be taught a painful lesson in humility. Hunting monsters requires stealth, trapping skills, some brute force or an excellent shot. The monsters and challenges vary widely from capturing monsters, collecting items and even hunting down legendary wyverns to earn your keep.

The verdict

Nine out of 10. Freedom offers an expansive amount of game play as well as beautiful environments, awesome music and enough weapon and armor choices to keep you happy for years to come. This game is one every PSP owner should pick up!
