Every year, UW-Milwaukee's ITP (Interpreter Training Program) puts on a vast production called "Deaf, Deaf Diverse World" (DDDW). It is in its sixth production this year and is evolving into a highly dynamic event.

The purpose of the event is to bring the communities of deaf, hard of hearing and hearing people together as we boost community awareness and celebrate the diversity right here in our own backyard.

DDDW represents the diverse community within the deaf population and hosts energetic acts and performances to raise awareness through a fun and entertaining approach. Past events have included many prominent performers in the deaf community.

Last year we had the privilege of witnessing Children of the Sun, the first deaf/hard of hearing drum troupe in the country! They performed along with Trix Bruce. She told the story of her life without uttering a single word. Trix is a storyteller, a poet, an actress and a one deaf-woman show.

This year we are proud to present Mindy Moore and Theron Parker. They are multitalented deaf entertainers that offer a wide variety of performances for the deaf and hard of hearing audience. This year they will perform their own rendition of "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus". Along with these two, we have a special deaf Russian dancer, Liliana Morgan.

Every year this truly spectacular event attracts an amazing turnout of people. Refreshments will be provided, great raffle prizes are up for grabs, face painting will be available for kids and many representatives from local community resources will be present.

Tickets can be purchased from any ITP student on campus or on the sixth floor of Enderis Hall. Prices are only $8 for students in advance, $9 for non-students in advance and $10 at the door-money definitely well spent. It will take place in the UWM Union Wisconsin Room on Thursday, April 20. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the entertainment will start at 6 p.m. For more information, please contact us at info@dddw06.org, or visit our website at www.dddw06.org. We hope to see you there!
