Were you aware that Milwaukee has a professional football team? A women's football team? The Milwaukee Momentum is a part of the National Women's Football Association and is ready to start their second season here in Milwaukee.
This league isn't some small, unprofessional, pick-up game league that started out of the blue. The NWFA was formed six years ago with two teams and has now expanded to 38 teams in 25 states and expects to keep on growing.
The women of the NWFA don't play tag or two-hand touch. It's real. It is the first full-contact women's football team in Milwaukee.
The NWFA has established itself as a strong, organized league and has received recognition from over 250 different media outlets across the country. The teams all have professional logos and their uniforms are original and sharp. They also have their own administrative staff and medical assistants helping to keep the team organized and healthy.
Fans can also bet on NWFA games just like other professional sports. At anybets.com fans can place bets on any of the regular season or playoff games. And, just like other sports, fans can purchase a wide variety of merchandise with their favorite team's logo. Anything from stamps and license plates to pillows or thongs with the Milwaukee Momentum logo can be ordered through their site at: http://www.cafepress.com/gomomentum
The team plays at Charles Hart Park at 7300 West Chestnut Street in Wauwatosa. Tickets can be purchased at the main gate at the price of $10 for adults and $8 for children, students and seniors.
Sheri Dieck was the Momentum's leader on the defensive side of the ball with 62 tackles, eight sacks and three fumble recoveries. Dieck, along with teammates Abbey Coons, Bridget Hubing and Chris Walker were selected as NWFA All-Stars for Milwaukee.
The team kicks off another season on April 22 at 7p.m. by playing host to the Toledo Spitfire at Hart Park.
The NWFA allows women to achieve a goal of being able to play professional football. No other league before it has given women this opportunity. Some women have attempted to play in leagues with men, but in some cases women faced discrimination and weren't given a full opportunity.
The Milwaukee Momentum is a part of a non-profit corporation named Shatter the Ceiling, Inc. The goal of this corporation is assist women to reach their potential and to achieve their goals.
Many of the people affiliated with the Momentum volunteer their time to keep the team going. The team is always looking for more volunteers and women to tryout for the team. For more information on volunteering or trying out you can visit: http://www.milwaukeemomentum.com
